Spore

Will Wright, Nerdiest of Nerds, says the much anticipated Spore will be released in 6 months. He says the game is done an is just being tweaked and balanced at this point, but healthy skepticism would not be remiss here. Still, it's nice to think that then end might be in sight. Link.

Leaving me with six months to decide whether I want to invest in a new computer just to play one game in my nonexistent free time. Or whether the much-more-affordable DS version will be worth it. (I'd still have to buy a DS, but that's only $100 if I get a good deal, possibly even less if I find a used one in good shape.)

PS Beautiful.

It's also going to be released for all the major consoles, at least as far as I'm aware. It's not as cheap as a DS, but I'm fairly certain the home console version will be somewhat better than the portable version and it's certainly cheaper than a new computer.

Hmm. Assuming BioShock, Portal, and Spore are all available for the 360, and the 360 itself drops down to less than, say, $200-$250, that might be worth the investment.

Well, Bioshock and Portal are both released already for the 360 and the newly released 360 Arcade is $279, so you're nearly there as it is.

I wonder how the price drops will happen in the next year. Demand is high enough for the Wii this year that they don't need to drop the price from the already relatively low $250 price tag. After another year of sales I'll bet you'll start to see systems actually sit on shelves for a while, which might push Nintendo to drop the price to $200. This, in turn, might push Microsoft to drop the Arcade to near there, with the premium at $300.
