BSG Finale

Haven't watched it yet, but I figure I should get this post up ASAP. How'd it all end? Were you satisfied? Enough questions answered? Did everyone turn out to be part of a dream of a disabled kid?

Kind of a mixed bag, in my opinion. It certainly wasn't terrible, but it wasn't entirely satisfying either. I'll have more to say when I've had chance to think about it more. And maybe watch it again.

The biggest problem for me personally was the commercials. I'm not used to watching this show when it's actually on in real time. The commercials really interrupted the flow, and made it very difficult for me to really get involved.

Here's what happened. President Roslin was faking the cancer thing the whole time and murdered everyone except for Baltar who she was really having an affair with. Crazy shit!

Oh, and the lived happily ever after.

I have to say, I found it terribly frustrating. Given my general annoyance at this last season or so, I'm not sure what the finale could have been that would have made me feel better about the series.

But hey, let's all go caveman because God (who hates that name, but obviously prefers to be referred to by the male pronoun) can just build us a Viper.

Man, and why was Hera so important anyway? The more I think about this show the more annoyed I get.

Yeah, I'm getting more annoyed the more I think about it also. The importance of Hera was revealed to us, the audience, at the end. She made it possible for our species (which is basically a "human"/cylon hybrid... it's now clear that the characters we've been calling "human" all this time aren't human in the same way we are) to develop.

But Hera still never had any importance to the characters (other than Helo and Athena, of course). She was only important because God told everyone that she was important, through angels and dreams.

But Baltar and Adama said the natives on Earth were oh-so-conveniently compatible genetically with the people of the fleet. The modern newspapers tell us that she was "Eve" but that seems to me to contradict what Baltar and Adama were saying, which I take as more credible.

Also, Lee Adama might have plummeted from one of my favorite characters on the show to my least favorite. Yeah, let's get rid of all modern technology, Lee. Medicine, unified language, metal processing. Yep, I'm sure glad Lee convinced everyone to go native so we could have that awesome Black Plague almost wipe out the species.

I want to know who was the first member of the fleet to have relations with one of the locals. That must have been awkward.

Oh my gods what a stupid ending.
